Kids Help Pediatric Cancer Nonprofit Collect Sneakers
(PRWEB) October 11, 2013 -- Kick off those sneakers and give back to the community. The Max Cure Foundation (MCF) and Maine Camp Experience are bringing Dunk Your Kicks to local schools.
The Dunk Your Kicks for pediatric cancer campaign is a unique and interactive way of teaching philanthropy to everyone by asking them to donate used qualified sneakers to The Max Cure Foundation. MCF sells the "kicks" to an international recycler who pays them per pair, hence allowing them to give an average of $1 per pair received towards advancing their mission. The recycler refurbishes these used sneakers, and re-sells them as affordable footwear to developing nations for those who cannot otherwise afford them.
Dunk Your Kicks was brought this past summer to Maine’s premier sleepaway camps that are members of Maine Camp Experience. Young campers, inspired by the lessons they learned at camp, wanted to bring Dunk Your Kicks to their local schools. Maine summer camps have always been committed to teaching and engaging campers in social responsibility. To date, campers have collected 1,000 pairs of sneakers and the program has spread to multiple schools.
“I love that summer camp gives me the opportunity to participate in an activity that helps others,” said 15-year-old camper, Rachel M. “Dunk Your Kicks is great because it helps raise money for pediatric cancer, and it is a fun way to support such a wonderful cause.”
Dunk Your Kicks is taking the country by storm and is doing it one dunk at a time.
“These campers come from all over the country,” said founder of The Max Cure Foundation, David Plotkin. “They want to help. This partnership with Maine Camp Experience is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term commitment with them.”
