A fall themed rice sensory bin makes a fun seasonal game for kids. A sensory bin is fun to play with, encourages creativity, and aids in overall child development. Making colored rice is a perfect activity to incorporate the colors of the fall in creative play.
To dye the rice use either liquid or gel food color. To ensure that the color coats the rice evenly, use a small amount of hand sanitizer. If hand sanitizer is not available use alcohol or another medium that will dilute the food coloring and spread uniformly over the rice when shaken.
Use a chopstick to mix the gel color with the hand sanitizer inside a mason jar. It is best to start with the lightest colors so one can avoid washing the mason jar after each color change. After the rice has been shaken or mixed completely, pour the rice onto a sheet to dry.
Once the different colored rice is places inside a large bin, collect leaves, pine cones, sticks, and little decorative pumpkins to complete the fall themed rice sensory bin.
Making dollhouse furniture is another fun fall activity. Simply collect a few sturdy branches and cut them according to the instructions provided on Kids Activities Blog. Use a saw, chisel, and a hammer to make stools, tables, mini plates, chairs, and many other items. Let the kids help with sanding the cute creations.
Ask the kids to think about additional furniture or accessory ideas that can accompany their dollhouse. One will be amazed at their ideas.
