The Oakland A’s Have One More Opportunity to Advance in the Playoffs; Pick Up Tickets to Game 5 Today
South Windsor, CT (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- With the teams tied heading into Game 5, the Detroit Tigers and the Oakland Athletics are facing a similar showdown from the 2011 division series. After the Tigers held onto this year’s Game 4 by a hair, it is anyone’s guess who will triumph Thursday night. Come see the excitement close-up with Oakland A's playoff tickets.
The teams kept the scores close with one-run games in their first two meetings of the series. However, Tigers prize pitcher Aníbal Sánchez unexpectedly surrendered three homeruns in Game 3, giving the A’s the 6-3 win.
While the Tigers nipped at the A’s heels for most of Game 4, a three-run homer by Jhonny Peralta in the fifth inning tied things up for Detroit, allowing for a change in momentum. Despite some heat from Oakland, when Max Scherzer came in as relief for Detroit, he was able to protect their slight lead, and the Tigers racked up two more runs to give them the win, 8-6.
Last year, Justin Verlander was the starting pitcher for the Tigers in Game 5, where he effectively shut out the A’s, eliminating them from the ALDS. Verlander, who has allowed one run in three postseason starts against the A’s, will once again take the mound at the start of this Game 5, hoping for similar results.
"We have much more experience this year than we did last year," A's first baseman Brandon Moss said, according to San Jose Mercury News. "We hadn't played them in a Game 5 before. Now we have. We know what to expect."
The A’s take on the Tigers at 8:07 p.m. the O.co Coliseum in Oakland. The winner of tonight’s game will go on to face the Red Sox, who scrabbled a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday night.
