With the release of the Heart of the Swarm expansion pack for Starcraft 2, the popular computer game, many changes were introduced into the game. A new guide published at OsirisSC2Guide.com documents these changes in detail.
One of the biggest changes in the new expansion is the release of new units. These units have a big impact on the game as a whole as new strategies have to be developed in order to counter these new unit types. Old strategies that used to work well will no longer be valid against these new unit types. The new guide at OsirisSC2Guide.com lists these new units in detail.
For example, the Terran race picked up two new units in Heart of the Swarm: the Widow Mine and the Hellbat. Both of these units have quickly become staples in the Terran army, drastically changing the way Terran players play the game. Widow Mines are now used in nearly all Terran versus Zerg matches.
Protoss players received the most new units in Heart of the Swarm and all of them are of the flying variety. The Oracle, Tempest, and Mothership Core are three powerful flying units with a variety of uses. Oracles tend to be used for harassment and scouting, the Mothership Core for both early defense and offense, and the Tempest works well in late-game armies. Protoss players now have the ability to go for entirely air-based armies and use them quite effectively against even ground-based armies.
Zerg received the least significant changes in Heart of the Swarm. Its new units, the Swarm Host and the Viper, while good, are not backbone units in standard Zerg armies. However, this does not mean that Zerg players can simply sit back and use their old strategies but rather these players must update their tactics in order to account for the other races' new units.
More details on all these new units can be found at the new guide, which can be found at http://www.osirissc2guide.com/starcraft-2-heart-of-the-swarm-strategy-guide.html.
