AlertSystems has reacted to a report published by Luton Today titled ‘CCTV Fails to Bag Airport Crooks’ published on October 2 which states that a passenger whose case was allegedly stolen believes that poor quality CCTV has meant the thieves cannot be identified. Donal Ridout from South Wales, who was flying from Luton Airport to Northern Ireland, allegedly had his suitcase taken from him but CCTV cameras only recorded a faint outline of the individuals, so police could not use the images to identify them.
Yet according to Luton Today a spokesperson for the airport denied that their network of CCTV cameras was inadequate, arguing that it isn’t possible to have the entire airport covered by CCTV cameras.
AlertSystems, who are experts in business security systems, closely follow CCTV related news and so were interested in this recent story. A spokesperson for the company offered their thoughts:
“This recent story highlights how important it is for businesses to install high quality CCTV security systems on their premises. Modern High Definition CCTV systems do allow for comprehensive coverage of large areas such as airport concourses. Older systems that only provide low resolution images can impede the police’s investigations, often meaning they can’t use the footage in attempts to identify individuals. Clear, high quality images recorded by HD CCTV security systems are extremely useful in assisting police in their investigations, often providing valuable information regarding the course of events and helping detectives to identify individuals in connection with the incident.”
