Healthcare Personalization Is Focus of Conference at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School

MBA Healthcare Club brings together industry leaders to discuss issues of critical importance to the healthcare industry.


The personalization of healthcare is the focus of the third annual Healthcare Conference at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School on Nov. 15

The conference brings together students, alumni, academia and prominent industry leaders to discuss current issues of critical importance to the healthcare industry. The 2013 conference will explore growing trends of patients controlling more of their care, marketing shifts from product to service focus, healthcare IT, delivering innovation to the patient, and startups within healthcare.

Organized by the MBA Healthcare Club at UNC Kenan-Flagler, the event will include a keynote address, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

Dr. Lou Lange, general partner at Asset Management Venture Fund, will give the keynote address. He has 22 years of experience in academic medicine at Harvard and Washington University, founded CV Therapeutics, and now works as an asset venture fund manager.

Panel discussions include:

  •     “Changes and Challenges as Patients Take More Control of Their Care” with Kevin Kettler (MBA ’96), senior vice president, McKesson; Brian Goldstein, executive vice president and chief operating officer, UNC Hospitals; and Thane Wettig, vice president, Eli Lilly
  •     “Marketing Insights and Applications: Shifting from Product Focus to Service Focus” with Tara Stewart, vice president, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Mark Thomson (MBA ’10), director, Johnson & Johnson; and Lewis Bertolucci, manager, Humana
  •     “Healthcare IT: Changing the Industry” with Marc Winchester, vice president, Intuit Health; Victor Kats, vice president, Ascension Health Ventures; Brent Lamm (MBA ’13), director, UNC Health System; and Dr. Don Spencer, vice president and chief medical informatics Officer, UNC Healthcare System
  •     “Delivering Healthcare Innovation to the Patient” with Tony Gorski (MBA ’02), CEO, Safer Healthcare; Susan Jackson, director, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina; and Ben Davis, vice president, Quintiles
  •     “Start Ups within Healthcare: Formation, Funding, and Exit Strategies” with Richard Brajer, former CEO, LipoScience; Todd Pope, CEO, TransEnterix; and Steve Hall, venture partner, Lilly Ventures

Kenneth B. Lee, (MBA ‘72), Hatteras Venture Partners, will receive the distinguished alumni award at the alumni awards dinner.
