The Union Music Library Becomes First Officially Endorsed Library By The American Federation of Musicians (AFM)
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- The Union Music Library, a unique new music catalog highlighting some of the very best television commercial composers, singers and musicians, has officially become the first music library to be endorsed by The American Federation of Musicians (AFM). Focusing on quality over quantity and exclusively representing top union-only music tracks and talent, The Union Music Library is a new effort curated and created by advertising music veteran Mike Boris. With over 700 tracks from over 100 composers, Boris has “cherry-picked” the best tracks from the most sought after music houses and freelancers and believes the UML will deliver both the creative quality and value that agencies require. Representing over 90,000 musicians across the Unites States, the AFM is the largest organization in the world representing the interests of talents of professional working musicians with long-standing relationships with many union-signatory advertising agencies, theatrical, film and television production companies.
“So many composers hold back their best tracks in the hopes of the right project coming along,” said Mike Boris, Music Producer and Music Supervisor who founded the UML earlier this year. “Often times, that means only releasing these tracks for projects that are “union” friendly. The idea of the UML was to create a library that highlighted these back pocket tracks and ensured they got into the hands of agencies and editors alike who value the quality of working with great musical talent.”
“Music for advertising has changed so dramatically over the last ten years with fewer opportunities for hard working musicians,” adds Tino Gagliardi, President of the AFM’s Local 802 based in New York City. “People need to be re-introduced to the creative quality and talent that only working with the very best live musicians, singers and composers can contribute. We understand that ad agencies want to drive value for their clients – and we are onboard with that too. That being said, keeping projects “union” means maximizing the very best creative outcomes for brands and getting value for giving value.”
Unlike other libraries that focus on licensing only, the UML’s tracks are work-for-hire and can be sold exclusively to agencies and brands. Importantly, with flexible pricing and service that includes filing all of the paperwork, the UML is looking to streamline the process of working union to make it easy as possible for its clients. Being a library, ease of access is also important with tracks instantly available to help drive efficiency for clients when in a pinch and needing a high quality music track.
“Union does not mean it’s more expensive,” adds Boris ”It simply means high quality. It means being able to work with the live musicians that create that magic in the studio day in and day out. People can also feel really good about working with the AFM because it provides professional musicians, who are so passionate about our industry, the ability to afford the basics like medical insurance, disability and pension – without which many could not afford to be musicians.”
“Clients used to hang in music sessions and at the studio, versus just the edit houses, and really be a bigger part of co-creating the tracks,” added Drew Stein, Founder of The Lodge Music, “Although there are plenty of loops, samples and synths that can 'fake it' - there is no doubt that something is gained creatively by working with live musicians and great talent. I think Mike has a unique ear and concept to bring together the ease of working with a library with the talent of the AFM and beyond. We are proud to have contributed music tracks to the UML and have encouraged other composers we know to do the same.”
