Applying eye drops or redness relievers while wearing make-up such as eye liner or mascara can cause eye irritation. Even without applying eye care products, eye make-up can begin to irritate if worn too long. Eye and water researcher Sharon Kleyne recently reported on a new soothing eye application that does not cause irritation when applied with eye makeup and in fact, relieves eye makeup irritation.
Sharon Kleyne is Founder of Bio Logic Aqua Research, a water and health research and product development center. Natures Tears® EyeMist® is the company’s global signature product for dry eye and dry facial skin. As part of an ongoing commitment to educating the public about water and health, Kleyne hosts the globally syndicated Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water® radio show on VoiceAmerica and Apple iTunes.
Kleyne research confirms what most make-up wearers already know, that applying formulated eye drops while wearing make-up can be counter-productive. According to Kleyne, this is due to a process called “backflow” and it occurs fairly often. When drops are applied to the eyes, some of the chemical formulation invariably ends up on the eyelid. If there is make-up on the eyelid, the drops can dissolve and mix with the make-up. This mixture of eye drops and make-up then “backflows” into the eyes, causing irritation and redness.
Even if you never apply eye drops while wearing make-up, says Kleyne, eye liner and mascara can cause the eyes to feel less than fresh. Like most other cosmetics, eye liner and mascara, when left on too long, tend to dehydrate or dry out the skin underneath. Kleyne has discovered that dehydrated eyelids could cause the eyes’ all-important tear film covering to lose some of its water content, again resulting in irritation, redness and dry eye symptoms.
Kleyne’s new discovery is that 100% water applied to the face as an ultra-fine mist instantly soothes irritated eyes without causing backflow. With this new discovery, Kleyne explains, tired or irritated eyes are instantly soothed.
The only product utilizing this new discovery, according to Kleyne, is Nature’s Tear® Eye Mist®. The all-natural, low-pH, fresh water with no added ingredients, used in Nature’s Tear® Eye Mist®, has unusual properties that enhance absorption into eyes, eyelid skin and facial skin.
