In Session 14 of the ongoing series of podcast interviews by Wes Schaeffer, The Sales Whisperer®, Personality Assessment Expert Barbara Metzger tells him, "Assess yourself first so you can understand yourself and understand how others see you. Assessments not only help with hiring decisions, business culture and productivity but have the great possibility of a positive impact on each person’s individual life, too." She feels a person's Emotional Intelligence (EQ), their emotional maturity and how they interact with people, is a more accurate and important indicator when determining interpersonal and leadership success.
Metzger uses the DISC method of personality assessment, which originally debuted in 1928 and on which all other four-type methods are based. Personality assessments help not only within companies as managers learn which personality types work better together, which increases productivity. They also help when trying to close a sale, which increases the bottom line.
Metzger goes on to tell Schaeffer, "Some rough rules of thumb on attire are: If they are dressed in a loud manner, they’ll buy from you because they like you. If they are wearing a conservative suit, they’ll buy from you based on the facts. If they are wearing a 30 year old suit, help them understand."
