Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 15, 2013
Grand Tablet, Inc. announced today its intention of releasing a revolutionary new product in the PC industry – the Grand. Grand Tablet, Inc. has initiated an Indiegogo campaign to fund the tablets, which are available in exchange for a $250 pledge. The Grand incorporates the following unique software features:
1. An extra-large launcher application which creates a homescreen with an extra-large font and icons. Launcher applications are designed to modify the user experience of Android-based tablets. The Grand’s launcher makes the user experience remarkably simple while allowing the user to install any of the countless apps developed for the Android operating system.
2. TechPal, a highly useful application developed by the Grand Tablet team, enables senior citizens to remotely receive help and guidance from trusted loved ones. For example, a tech savvy grandson, who may live mere minutes or many miles away, can remotely log in to his grandmother’s tablet and teach her how to use the Grand.
3. Pre-loaded apps, that senior citizens will greatly desire and find useful, have been carefully selected based on results from extensive market research. Some of the apps are specifically targeted to senior citizens, such as Pill Reminder and AARP, while others are used by the mass market such as Skype, Facebook and Netflix.
In the Grand's beta testing, families have loved the TechPal, the remote app, because it allows senior citizens to easily receive help and training from their family members. As Kenny Wilkerson, grandson of a Beta Tester states, “Our family’s schedule is pure craziness. There isn’t an extra minute in the day to drop in and help Grandpa solve a problem, and attempting to fix a glitch over the phone is a veritable disaster. With TechPal, my wife or I can use our tablet/computer to see Grandpa’s screen and either easily solve the problem or show him how to fix the problem himself.”
The Grand’s hardware incorporates only the basic features to reduce both price and complexity. For only a $250 pledge, customers receive a trendy tablet with a quad core CPU, quad core GPU and bright LCD screen with 1200 x 800 resolution. Added components such as accelerometers and retina display are undesirable for seniors since these functionalities not only increase the price of the tablet but actually make the tablet more difficult to use.
If someone wears reading glasses, it is unadvisable to use a tablet with retina display. Additionally, seniors generally do not play accelerometer-based video games, where the game quickly changes orientation from portrait to landscape view. This overly advanced functionality can easily wreak havoc on an elderly user’s confidence.
The Grand Tablet team hopes the Grand will enrich the lives of seniors across the nation by keeping their minds actively stimulated with the latest and greatest technology. As reported by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), "Senior citizens are at a relatively high risk for depression for a variety of reasons: loss of health, loss of friends, loss of purpose." Additionally, BIDMC psychiatrist Dr. Michael C. Miller suggests, "Senior [citizens] are at less risk if they stay engaged in the world … People who have built networks of friends or enjoy family relationships tend to be happiest. People who are more social are less likely to get depressed." The Grand aids in facilitating the need of social interaction amongst senior citizens by providing an easy-to-use, low-cost, pre-loaded method of communication.
Fox Holt, President of Grand, attests, "We started the Grand Tablet initiative to help aging loved ones stay connected with their families and the rest of the world. Our team has surveyed thousands of seniors, worked with countless directors of assisted living centers and beta tested many families to perfect what we believe is the simplest, best option for elderly users."
