Members of ITS World Congress Board Elect Econolite to ITS World Congress Hall of Fame
Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2013 -- Econolite today announced that it has been selected as the first U.S. company to be inducted into the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame during the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame Ceremony, which took place today during the Opening Ceremony of the 20th ITS World Congress in Tokyo, Japan. Econolite was presented with the ‘Industry Award’ for its pioneering and innovative work on Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS). This year was the first year in which the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame awards honored not only distinguished individuals, but also achievements by industry/academic institutions and local governments.
“We are thrilled to present this award to Econolite for its pioneering achievements in accelerating the development and deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems to improve traffic management, as well as for their strong leadership role in the ITS community,” said ITS America President and CEO Scott Belcher. “The Hall of Fame Awards recognize the most ambitious achievements in our industry that significantly advance the efficiencies of our nation’s surface transportation system to reduce congestion, save lives, and optimize the existing infrastructure.”
Because of its success with Centracs® ATMS in helping customers realize new ITS capabilities, Econolite has deployed 120 systems that are scheduled to control more than 20,000 intersections. One of the deployments reviewed for this award is the Centracs ATMS installed in the city of Charlotte, NC as part of that city’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) initiative – the project required the Centracs system to be up and running within six months for a planned national event in the city that placed heavy demands on transportation management, security, and control.
“We are honored to receive this important award and to be recognized by the ITS World Congress Board,” said Econolite Group CEO Mike Doyle. “The acknowledgement of our close work with our customers to help them achieve their ITS goals is very gratifying. We look forward to continuing Centracs’ development, enabling transportation agencies to achieve new capabilities in ITS.”
