Denton Integrity System Provides Precision Coatings for the World Space Observatory Mission
Moorestown, NJ (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Denton Vacuum, a leading designer and manufacturer of systems that deposit ultra-thin metallic and dielectric coatings, has announced that its proprietary Integrity System is being used to provide precision coatings for the World Space Observatory-Ultraviolet (WSO-UV).
WSO-UV is a joint space exploration project sponsored by the Russian Federation and Spain. The orbital Observatory -- which is similar in scale to the Hubble Space Telescope -- will be built around a 1.7 meter space telescope with a 17 meter focal length and is scheduled for launch in 2016. This multipurpose instrument will have a major impact on our understanding of the universe with the ability to make observations on planets in our solar system, extrasolar planets, stellar objects, and wider galactic scale structures.
Denton is supporting this program through its customer, SIA Luch in Podolsk, which is responsible for coating both the primary and secondary mirrors of the WSO-UV. SIA Luch is using a recently acquired Denton Integrity system for this project.
WSO-UV mission managers reported on primary and secondary mirror coating activities in recent updates to the technical community.
"Precision optics is a core focus of Denton Vacuum," said Vince McGinty, President of Denton Vacuum. "Projects like these demonstrate the wide scale of our capabilities. They also illustrate a trend in which our customers are increasingly requiring systems and processes to support precision optics that operate outside of the visual range.” He added, “Denton is supporting challenging applications in both the UV and IR, and developing new products to further our goal of turning our customer's most challenging technical barriers into technical and commercial breakthroughs."
The Denton Integrity system is the company’s flagship evaporation platform. It features multiple evaporation sources, advanced controls, and world-class vacuum system design. In addition to optical coating systems, the Integrity system supports demanding astronomical and military coatings.
