First-Ever Vending Operator Confidence Index Reveals Cautious Optimism by Vending, Micro Market and OCS Operators

Rating stems from findings in the inaugural industry report card published by Automatic Merchandiser magazine and VendingMarketWatch.com.

Automatic Merchandiser magazine and VendingMarketWatch.com, the only properties dedicated solely to providing a clear picture on the vending, office coffee service (OCS) and micro market sectors, announces the release of its first-ever Operator Confidence Index (OCI). The OCI measures the short- and long-term confidence members have for the industry as a whole. The Index is available only from VendingMarketWatch.com and Automatic Merchandiser magazine, and is sponsored by Mondelez International.

The cautious optimism is reflected in this month's Operator Confidence Index (OCI) number -- 130.60 - whereby each segment (vending, OCS and micro markets) is measured via a monthly survey sent to the VendingMarketWatch.com’s Board of Operators. The survey asks panelists to offer insight on how they feel about their current business environment as well as give them an opportunity to sound off on why they feel the current business environment is either favorable or unfavorable.

"For the first time, industry members will be able to see how the business is doing on a monthly basis, instead of waiting for a once-a-year report. And the best part is that the results will be timely, based on the most recent data instead of numbers from previous year," says Monique Terrazas, publisher, Automatic Merchandiser and VendingMarketWatch.com.

With an average/medium being 100, the index of 130.60 represents a fairly positive industry outlook, which is consistent with projections based on the annual State of the Vending Industry report. Operators were certainly seeing growth at their locations. In many areas, locations were hiring again and willing to spend more money, especially in OCS.

Terrazas adds there are plans to deploy a quarterly eNewsletter to exclusively release the Operator Confidence Index for the quarter and that will contain article content on a range of business management topics. The Operator Confidence Index will reside on the Management Channel of VendingMarketWatch.com. Content within the Management Channel is designed to be a destination for an operator to gain access to all content that helps them with the business aspect of their operation.
