Online Panel to Discuss the Rise of “DIY College” and What It Means for K-12 Education
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) October 15, 2013 -- A growing number of students are taking college courses before enrolling in any post-secondary institution or even earning their high school diploma—a trend often called Do-It-Yourself (DIY) College. What are the implications of this trend on our conventional understanding of the high school and college experience?
“High school students can now accumulate enough college credits through Advanced Placement (AP), online dual enrollment, and portable courses to knock years off a degree before ever setting foot on a college campus,” said Mickey Revenaugh, Executive Vice President of Connections Learning by Pearson.

According to data published by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), 1.3 million high school students in the United States were enrolled in college courses for credit in the 2010-2011 school year—a 67 percent increase from the previous NCES report (2002-2003).
“We look forward to discussing this increasingly fluid boundary between high school and college, and how to equip our students to make smart choices each step along the way,” Revenaugh said.
