Silk Threads Presents "Art+Couture" Fusion Charity Fundraiser
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- A unique event is being presented on Sunday, October 27th at 3 p.m. at the Park Plaza Tower in Dallas – for the first time, Silk Threads, the leading wholesaler and retailer of South Asian American and mainstream clothing, brings a fashion show showcasing collections based on the art of local painter Rahul Vyas, benefiting the India Education Fund, which provides education for underprivileged and at-risk children in India. Special Guest at the event will be Pooja Kumar, the Indian American actress, who has acted in mainstream TV shows like Law and Order, as well as Bollywood blockbusters with legends like Kamal Haasan.
Silk Threads organizes a major charity event annually – previous beneficiaries include American Cancer Society and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County – with over $60,000 raised over the last four years.
According to Ruby Bhandari, recently named as the 10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas, 2013, by D Magazine, and the Chief Designer and Owner of Silk Threads "Giving back to the community is extremely important for us as a team. This year, we are using the fusion of Rahul Vyas’s art and our designs to bring something new to the audience, while raising funds for underprivileged children."
Diwali, the biggest Hindu festival with origins in the epic Ramayana, will be the first week of November this year. Some of Rahul Vyas’s art will feature his interpretation of some of the scenes from the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. The program will include an exhibition of his art, including auction of his most recent painting, proceeds of which will go to charity.
Ruby’s collections will include several different aspects of Indian and mainstream clothing, ranging from casualwear to traditional bridal and menswear. The designs reflect her western upbringing, coupled with the traditional Indian motifs, embroideries and colors.
The afternoon will also include Indian American actress Pooja Kumar, who most recently starred opposite the legendary South Indian actor Kamal Haasan, in the Bollywood blockbuster, Viswaroopam. She just returned after completing the shooting for the sequel, Viswaroopam 2.
In addition, there will several musical and dance performances by local groups, Dropaholix and Blue Flame Productions.
