Silicon Valley Space Center (SVSC) and Center for Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) Give ROADMAP to the International Space Station (ISS)
Mountain View, Ca. (PRWEB) October 15, 2013 -- Want to know about the business of space who are the big players and how to get to be one? Twenty six of the most famous leaders in the NewSpace industry will participate at the SVSC/CASIS jointly sponsored “Launching Commercial Space Enterprises,” Friday, October 18, 9:00 AM-Sunday, October 20, 3:30PM, Atmel Research Park, 1600 Technology Dr., San Jose, CA.
Recognized industry speakers will include:
NASA Astronaut and Executive Director of CASIS, Col. Gregory Johnson will discuss what it takes to be a successful commercial enterprise on the ISS and Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). If you think commercial businesses aren’t interested in space, you would be wrong. Procter and Gamble and Merck are just two of the many companies running programs up there now.
Dr. Sean Casey, PhD Astrophysicist and Co-Founder and Managing Director of SVSC - growth and future of Commercial Space in Silicon Valley. “The explosions of NewSpace companies is beyond anyone’s wildest expectations,” according to Dr. Casey. SVSC provides project based space education and helps accelerate entrepreneurs in space.
Chris White Head of Business Development for Space X - the basic concept of Space X’s Dragon Lab which will take people, cargo and experiments to their destination. What cargo is Space X’s Dragon Lab planning on carrying? You are about to find out.
Erika Wagner of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin - developing technologies to enable private human access to space at dramatically lower cost and increased reliability; currently focused on developing rocket-powered Vertical Takeoff and Vertical Landing (VTVL) vehicles for access to suborbital and orbital space.
Rich Godwin, President and CEO of Zero Gravity Solutions - developing dramatic scientific breakthroughs in the area of unique and patentable plant, animal and human stem cells developed on the ISS. Cells exposed to prolonged microgravity in space can be endowed with new characteristics extremely beneficial to mankind.
Khaki Rodway, XCOR - what it takes to get a ticket to ride on XCOR and latest update from the company that wants to make suborbital space travel affordable.
Richard David, NewSpace Global - the emerging new and exciting business opportunities being developed by the commercial NewSpace community.
Jason Dunn, Made in Space - Customized 3D printing will radically enable the space industry. Building parts, structures, and tools in space will not only reduce launch mass and size constraints, it will also enable the capability to build parts when needed, on-demand.
SVSC members will also be speaking, including:
Brian Barritt, Alanax Technologies - Finalist in 2013 Stanford NewSpace Business Plan Competition – developing Astrolink software which simulates communications from space letting you test voice, video, even email from LEO.
Manu Sharma, Infinity Aerospace - Finalist in 2013 Stanford NewSpace Business Plan Competition – the Ardulab makes experiments more affordable for students and researchers by creating cube like container technology that allows fully autonomous microgravity experiments. It was recently headed to the ISS in the Cygnus capsule.
Launching Commercial Space Enterprises is a must for anyone interested in the many opportunities available in space. About CASIS: The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) was selected by NASA in July 2011 to maximize use of the International Space Station (ISS) U.S. National Laboratory through 2020. CASIS is dedicated to supporting and accelerating innovations and new discoveries that will enhance the health and wellbeing of people and our planet. The CASIS goal is to bring the magic of space down to earth. For more information, visit http://www.iss-casis.org.
About the ISS National Laboratory: In 2005, Congress designated the U.S. portion of the International Space Station as the nation's newest national laboratory to maximize its use for improving life on Earth, promoting collaboration among diverse users and advancing STEM education. This unique laboratory environment is available for use by other U.S. government agencies and by academic and private institutions, providing access to the permanent microgravity setting, vantage point in low earth orbit and varied environments of space. The ISS National Laboratory Office at NASA’s Johnson Space Center currently facilitates research initiatives on board the station’s National Lab, but management of America’s only in-orbit laboratory is transitioning to CASIS.
About SVSC: Silicon Valley Space Center (SVSC) provides business acceleration, strategic direction and angel level funding for startup companies within the growing NewSpace industry in Silicon Valley. It assists start-up and early-stage companies with the commercialization of their innovative products or services. Regularly hosted events and workshops bring together the vast array of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, and investors who share a passion for shaping the future of space exploration. http://www.svsc.org
