Nearly two years after purchasing the once-struggling restaurant Cafe Mono, Navy Veteran John Vallas is pushing further with a re-branding of the mostly outdoor beach coffee house and café.
The Swell Café is re-launching October 17th with an expanded menu featuring a variety of fresh breakfast, lunch, and healthy snacks such as real fruit smoothie concoctions and Nicaraguan dragonfruit. Also of note will be the vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options to choose from. One feature is definitely staying, though. “We are well-known for our latte art on all of the cappuccinos and lattes we serve here at the café, as it’s not only our signature but also serves to show how meticulous we are when it comes to serving a great cup of coffee,” says John.
The café has won several awards this year for its food and coffee, including two silver medals in the local newspaper, the Beach & Bay Press. And the café will be featuring an as-yet-to-be-announced special coffee line that is strictly earth-conscious. “Our new coffee just arriving at the café is coming from farms that hold at least two earth-friendly certifications, such as Fair Trade Certified, USDA Organic, and other ethical trade certifications. We are still testing the coffee, but so far the results are extremely promising!” exclaimed Vallas.
You can visit The Swell Café at 3833 Mission Blvd. from 7am-4pm every day and, while sipping on a cappuccino and breathing in the ocean air, relax, check your email with free wi-fi, and let the hours go by while soaking in some sun in Mission Beach. Website – http://www.theswellcafe.com
