Boom Ideanet Teams Up with iKC: The Unconference To Problem-Solve The “Collision-Density” Challenge in Kansas City
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) October 17, 2013 -- iKC: The Unconference, hosted by Think Big Partners and the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City, MO, featured an agenda generated by the attendees less than 24 hours prior to the opening remarks on October 3, 2013. It was crowdsourcing in action. In addition, Boom Ideanet, one of the event sponsors, also posed a challenge through the Boom Ideanet platform. Attendees and members of the “Ideanet” contributed solutions, and winning ideas were identified at the end of the one-day conference.
“Boom Ideanet was an ideal partner for the iKC: The Unconference,” explains Sarah Snyder, Director of Coworking and Strategic Partnerships at Think Big Partners. “Consistent with the spirit of the Unconference, Boom signed on to demonstrate how its global network of problem-solvers could share ideas for a very local challenge. According to Philip Rosedale, creator of Second Life, KC has a collision density that is 20 times lower than that of San Francisco. We wanted to solicit suggestions for how KC could increase the collision density. The city boasts a very rich entrepreneurial climate, but the opportunities for interaction could be higher.”
Steve Wood, Managing Director of Boom Ideanet, added, “We wanted to see if the problem-solvers in our network could provide useful, relevant ideas to address a highly localized challenge. And we were very pleased with the results. Thinkers contributed practical, refreshing ideas not only from KC, but also from cities as far away as San Francisco and Surat, India.”
Kansas City already features a number of resources for entrepreneurs, such as FastTrac, The Kauffman Foundation, SparkLabKC, Startup Weekend, Startup Genome, Startup Commons, 1millioncups.com and much more. The winning ideas were 1) to remedy the lack of awareness about these resources through an awareness campaign targeting entrepreneurs, 2) identify 5 or 6 obstacles to success and conduct intensive speed drills to problem-solve for them, and 3) go against the competitive grain and identify innovators with common goals and see if they can work together to build success.
Boom Ideanet will work with Think Big Partners to move towards activating these ideas, to the benefit of the entrepreneurial community in KC.
