Top San Antonio Business Leaders Promote Fitness through Fit Company’s Challenge of the Fittest
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) October 17, 2013 -- With healthcare costs growing exponentially, companies are looking to reduce these costs with programs that motivate employees to improve their fitness and health. Companies currently offer a variety of programs including free or discounted gym memberships, on-site yoga instructors, and nutrition seminars. While these programs can work, one major challenge companies face is gaining employee participation. A growing number of companies are realizing that one of the best ways to get employees to take advantage of these programs is for company leadership to first, lead by example.
On October 6th, 2013 a group of business leaders in the Greater San Antonio Area took part in the Challenge of the Fittest, a corporate fitness event held by the Fit Company Institute providing area companies and business leaders an opportunity to show the importance of living a fit and healthy lifestyle. Participants ranged in ages from 24 – 54 and competed in categories for Fittest Executive, Entrepreneur, Doctor, Lawyer, and Fittest Company.
“San Antonio was once named one of America’s unhealthiest cities. I believe that city leaders and organizers have since taken a stand against this perception and have motivated their peers and subordinates to participate in events like Fit Company’s Challenge of the Fittest,” said Ruben Ayala, Owner of San Antonio Healthy Vending (SAHV) and a participant in the Challenge of the Fittest. “Taking part in this challenge has allowed me to share my personal story of living fit to hundreds of my friends, as well as be part of a group of inspiring leaders in the San Antonio community that are passionate about making a difference, and while it was tough, it was also a lot fun!”
Participants were selected through an invite-only process with certain criteria met for each leader and company to qualify to participate. “Our goal in holding this corporate challenge is to highlight business leaders who are making a difference in San Antonio and who are inspiring others to follow,” said Matt Barker, Fit Company Director, “while most recognition programs put their focus on an event like an awards gala, our program is focused on taking action during a 90 minute fitness challenge, and our participants wouldn't have it any other way.”
Participants sweated their way through three fitness courses challenging their strength, conditioning, power, agility, and ending with a test of endurance in order to show their companies that they practice what they preach. The challenge was held at the Thousand Oaks Family YMCA and the event benefited the Y Partners Campaign.
