International Healthcare Advocate to Discuss Trends in Prevention, Rejuvenation, and Aftercare
Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Josef Woodman, CEO of Patients Beyond Borders, has been selected to moderate a panel discussion at the 2nd annual Malaysia International Healthcare Travel Expo, October 22nd 2013, 9:00-9:45AM, at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The session, entitled “The New Wellness Dialogue: Trends in Prevention, Rejuvenation, and Aftercare in the Clinical Setting” will feature Laszlo Puczko, co-founder of Xellum, Ltd., and author of Health, Tourism, and Hospitality: Wellness, Spas, and Medical Travel; Datin Ramona Suleiman, Advisor, Malaysia National Spa Council; Dato' Dr. B.S. Bains, Chief Consultant Physiotherapist, BainsPhysio; and Lai Kean Li, Head of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tung Shin Hospital. Woodman will kick off the session with a presentation on global trends in wellness and its implications for clinical care in Malaysia.
More than 500 participants from around the globe are expected to attend the event, including key representatives from government agencies, medical facilities, clinics, spa and wellness facilities, insurance companies, tourist boards, travel agencies, and travel providers. The conference, organized by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), an initiative of the Malaysian Ministry of Health, is a forum for healthcare and travel stakeholders to share information and ideas on medical and wellness travel in Malaysia and throughout the region.
Other key speakers include Jeremy Abbate, publishing director of Scientific American’s Worldview, and travel journalist luminary Peter Greenberg of CBS News and PBS’ The Travel Detective.
Malaysia has seen medical tourism skyrocket in recent years, with more than 670,000 patient visits in 2012, representing revenue of RM594 million. Malaysia’s cultural compatibility with Indonesian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and English-speaking patients, combined with its reputation as a value destination for quality healthcare, is driving this growth.
Woodman is penning the Patients Beyond Borders: Malaysia Second Edition, which will update readers on dozens of new facilities and medical specialties available to the health traveler. A new chapter on wellness and spa travel options in Malaysia will inform readers on Malaysia’s robust offerings for the wellness traveler. The book is slated for publication in 2014, in print, digital, and mobile formats.
“Malaysia remains one of the world’s top 10 medical travel destinations,” says Woodman. “Malaysia continues to build out its healthcare infrastructure, adding new medical facilities and specialties, wellness and spa destinations, and offerings for retirement and long-term care.”
As the author of Patients Beyond Borders, the bestselling consumer guide to medical tourism Woodman has spent more than eight years touring 200 medical facilities in 30 countries, researching contemporary medical tourism. The cofounder of MyDailyHealth and Ventana Communications, with a pioneering background in health, wellness, and Web technology, Woodman has compiled a wealth of information about global health travel, telemedicine, and new developments in consumer and institutional medical care. He has lectured at the UCLA School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, and Duke Fuqua School of Business, and has chaired and keynoted conferences on medical tourism and global healthcare in 16 countries.
