“We carry these devices that are exactly the same, I love the idea of taking something so uniform and making it personal,” -Jerry Lee

With the unveiling of two new styles for the iPhone 5/5S case, Story Leather now offers more customization options than any retailer of its kind.

The online brand, which specializes in handcrafted leather accessories—cell phone & tablet cases, wallets, handbags—has surpassed the 21 million mark for the total number of unique combinations that customers may create when designing their own genuine leather cases at http://www.StoryLeather.com.

“It’s an important milestone for us to hit before the holiday season, we want customers to create one-of-a-kind gifts and this brings us closer,” said founder Jerry Lee.

Using Story Leather’s customization interface customers choose from exterior colors, leather patterns, interior colors, clasps, accent colors, backing styles and can personalize their cases even further with logo and monogram stamping. Personalization however, is not the only way that Story Leather is filling an important void in the marketplace, the start-up also offers custom sizing options for cases that may require unique dimensions to be fitted for phones with extended battery packs or other uncommon sizing specifications.

“Some customers come to us with protective cases or other add-ons that make their devices too big to fit into their pockets. We are the only company on the market that will size a case or carrier to such precise specifications--down to a fraction of an inch--to deliver whatever the customer made need. We are not one size fits all and that allows us to cater to more phone models than other companies can, even the models that are harder to find cases for,” said Lee.

The concept for Story Leather came when founder Jerry Lee went to purchase a leather case for his cell phone in 2010. All the cases from the retail stores he found were low quality and all the designer brands were astronomically priced.

“There were cases you could customize online but they were mostly made of plastic or low quality synthetic leather,” said Lee.

In terms of durability, Jerry knew that genuine leather was the ideal material for a protective case and he wouldn’t settle for anything less.

“We pay so much for these devices I wanted a material that would protect them and last.”

Realizing that he probably wasn’t the only one looking for well-crafted leather cases, Jerry searched endlessly for a product that offered what he was looking for but found nothing.

That’s when he got the idea to merge two ideas together. What if you took the unique customization options that companies provide for their plastic cases with and paired them with the high quality materials, and craftsmanship, of the designer brands?

“I’m interested in self-expression, we all carry these devices that are exactly the same, I love the idea of taking something so uniform and making it personal,” said Lee.

Now only one year after his initial search, Story Leather is the only company in the United States that offers customized fine leather cell phone cases, tablet cases, wallets, bags and holsters with millions of customization combinations for each type of device.

“This business would be a lot easier if we didn’t offer so much customization, things would be simpler, but the goal is individuality, we put the customer’s ability to choose at the center of what we do.”
