NC Personal Injury Lawyer James S. Farrin Speaks Out on Bus Safety after Fatal Tennessee Bus Crash
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Today, James Farrin, president and founder of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, spoke out about the importance of bus safety in reducing the risk of serious accidents - in response to the recent bus accident that killed 8 people, including 6 elderly churchgoers from Statesboro, NC.
“We don’t yet know exactly what happened in the Tennessee crash, but this serves as a somber reminder for those who maintain and drive buses to take every precaution to protect the precious lives onboard. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and those who have been affected by this accident,” said Farrin, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents.
According to Fox 8 (“8 dead, 14 hospitalized in I-40 crash involving NC church bus,” October 2), the horrific accident occurred about 40 miles east of Knoxville, TN as the elderly group was returning from a conference in Gatlinburg, TN.
The bus lost control after a tire blowout and crossed the center median, clipping an SUV and colliding with a tractor-trailer, before rolling over, according to Fox 8. The tractor-trailer caught fire. Both the driver of the SUV and tractor-trailer were killed along with six passengers aboard the bus. Many more were injured.
In determining the cause of the accident, investigators are looking into what caused the tire to blow, as well as the bus driver’s qualifications and driving history, according to the report.
“While the cause of this tragic accident is currently under investigation, bus accidents can occur because a transportation company fails to take proper safety measures. Oftentimes the company neglects to properly maintain the bus or hires a driver who isn’t capable,” Farrin said. “However, a faulty tire or debris in the road could also all be factors.”
Farrin said that since bus accidents, such as the Tennessee crash, are so complex, it is often difficult to sort out fault (and therefore insurance) and victims could wait a long time for compensation they may desperately need for their medical bills.
He recommends that any victims involved in a bus crash seek legal help immediately.
