These events are the answer to the industry's demand for understanding the trends and desire to see how best practices are shaping up in this nascent area of competitive advantage.

This week, SourceMedia will host two new conferences designed to meet the growing demand for practical knowledge and insight into the use of analytics in the financial services and healthcare markets. The events – focused on banking and insurance respectively – join the Healthcare Analytics Symposium, which was successfully launched by the company last year.
The Banking Analytics Symposium and Insurance Analytics Symposium are presented by SourceMedia’s market-leading business information brands American Banker and Insurance Networking News. The Healthcare Analytics Symposium was launched with Health Data Management.
The banking and insurance events will be held simultaneously on October 17-18 at the Hyatt Regency in Boston. Both events exceeded their attendee and revenue expectations. The interest stems from a host of technological and societal changes that are converging to make analytics a matter of competitive advantage in the near term. For the property and casualty insurance industry, which continues to grapple with underwriting profitability and long-term low interest rates, mastery of analytics is often perceived as a matter of survival. Banking professionals hope to leverage analytics with marketing and risk management strategies to drive revenue, increase retention and acquire new customers.
“Whether it's creating analytics centers of excellence to serve the entire enterprise, or heavy investments in stress testing capabilities, the banking and insurance industries are hyper-focused on building up their analytics capabilities,” said Rebecca Sausner, director of content development for SourceMedia Conferences & Events. “These events are the answer to the industry's demand for understanding the trends and desire to see how best practices are shaping up in this nascent area of competitive advantage."
One of the greatest areas of challenge is in recruiting and developing analytics talent and expertise. In support of this mission, and in conjunction with sponsor support, Insurance Networking News is launching "Tomorrow's Talent Challenge" at the Insurance Analytics Symposium. The result of this effort will be the creation of a scholarship fund to support the educational pursuits of a high school senior interested in pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering or math.
These events were created with the support of advisory councils comprised of thought-leaders in each industry, representing both banking and insurance firms, as well as the vendor and consulting communities. SourceMedia’s editorial expertise on these topics is also being leveraged; the Banking Analytics conference is being chaired by American Banker Technology Editor Penny Crosman, and the Insurance Analytics event is being chaired by Insurance Networking News senior editor Chris McMahon.
