Gastroenterology Associates of Beverly Hills Unveils the Newest Technology in Wireless Capsule Diagnostics: SmartPill® Measures Transit Time Through the GI Tract
Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Gastroenterology Associates of Beverly Hills (GABH), a state-of-the-art facility with a proactive approach to digestive health and its related diseases, announces the launch of its new and innovative capsule technology: SmartPill®. Patients ingest the capsule, while they are at the GABH, and, as the SmartPill® travels through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, it wirelessly transmits data about GI pressure, pH, transit times and temperature to a recorder worn on a belt clip or lanyard. This valuable data allows physicians to comprehensively evaluate a patient’s GI tract without any radiation. Sedation is not required to ingest the SmartPill®, and, once the capsule is swallowed, patients can return to most of their normal activities.
SmartPill® uses sensor technology to measure transit time through specific regions of the GI tract, as well as the overall transit time of the entire GI tract. This information allows a gastroenterologist to determine if and how unexplained GI symptoms such as nausea, bloating, constipation, abdominal pain and vomiting are related to conditions such as Gastroparesis (a disorder in which the contents of the stomach empty too slowly) and chronic constipation.
Drs. Omid Shaye and Pedram Enayati, the co-founders of GABH, are leading gastroenterologists in the greater Los Angeles Area, who vouch for the benefits of this technology and its effective ability to evaluate the conditions, signs and symptoms of motility disorders. “This technology gives us valuable diagnostic data, and may deliver information needed to make a proper diagnosis without having to sedate our patients and put them through multitudes of testing,” says Dr. Shaye.
