66th Annual Original Ozark Folk Festival Full Schedule Announced
Eureka Springs, Arkansas (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- The country’s longest continuously running folk festival returns for the 66th annual Original Ozark Folk Festival Oct. 23-27 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It will include the Queen’s Contest, Barefoot Ball, Singer/Songwriter Contest, free music, arts and crafts demonstrations, the Folk Festival Parade, and this year, the taping of two world-wide broadcasts of The WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour!
On Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m., Folksinger Michael Johnathon brings his internationally syndicated radio, TV and online broadcast of the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour to The Auditorium at 36 S. Main Street. In the tradition of legendary radio shows of the past, WoodSongs has always been produced before an audience. Johnathon brings his live audience celebration of grassroots music to Eureka Springs as part of the Ozark Folk Festival.
Fans can be part of two shows, one hour each, taped in one evening. One of the shows will spotlight wonderful artists from across Arkansas and The Ozarks including Mountain Sprout, The Clark Family Trio, Clancey Ferguson, The Ozark Alliance, David Kimbrough III, Fiddlin’ Banjo Billy Mathews and Martin Johnson. The second show will feature the legendary Michael Martin Murphy and Leroy Troy and the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band.
Wednesday night at 7 p.m. is the Barefoot Ball at the Barefoot Ballroom in the 1905 Basin Park Hotel at 12 Spring Street. Music will be provided by The Hillbenders. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
The Queens Contest takes place Thursday night at The Auditorium, with young women exhibiting both beauty and talent to become Folk Festival Queen. The 3rd grade Hedgehoppers from Eureka Springs Elementary School will also perform a folk dance.
Free music in Basin Spring Park starts at noon on Friday, will feature local folk acts all day long, and a performance by Michael Johnathon.
Also in Basin Park Saturday at 11 a.m. is the annual Singer/Songwriters’ Contest with folk music until 2 p.m. Immediately following, the Folk Festival Parade rolls downtown.
Finally, Brick Fields will perform at a free Gospel Brunch in Basin Spring Park at noon on Sunday to close down the festival. Rachel Fields-Brick and Larry Brick are Arkansas natives that come together with their Arkansas blues and folk music. Just like good old fashion medicine, we all need a taste of this invigorating music.
