Bank of America Chicago Marathon Raises over $12,000 for Hospice
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) October 17, 2013 -- Perfect running conditions set the scene on Sunday, October 13 for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Within the field of over 45,000 runners, nine were Run to Remember participants, who traveled from several different states, to run in memory of special people in their lives who have passed away.
A few of these runners came together the night before at a pre-marathon dinner to share their stories at a local restaurant in Chicago. Some, first time marathon runners, and some, first time fundraisers. Together, these individuals raised over $12,000 for hospice and Run to Remember.
Linda Ward, President and CEO of Gulfside Regional Hospice in Florida, was among them, “I am honored to be running in my first marathon, in my home town, in memory of my father Vincent, and raising money for The National Hospice Foundation and Gulfside Regional Hospice.”
Run to Remember is NHF’s athletic fundraising program. Through it, runners and walkers train for races of varying lengths, honor their loved one’s memories, and raise money for hospice. The program benefits local hospices across the country, as well as NHF’s national work to advance hospice care at the national level.
