Morgan & Morgan Welcomes Speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives Greg Stumbo to its Legal Team
Lexington, KY (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Morgan & Morgan is proud to welcome Greg Stumbo, the Speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives and former Attorney General of Kentucky, to its team of personal injury and consumer protection lawyers.
“Along with acknowledging my many years of protecting Kentuckians in Frankfort as both a legislator and attorney general, [John Morgan] recognized I have dedicated my entire professional career as an attorney to protecting people who have been hurt or injured and it was a distinct honor for me to be asked to join their firm,” Mr. Stumbo said.
A graduate of the University of Louisville’s law program, Mr. Stumbo began his 30-plus years in public service as Floyd County’s state representative in 1980. Five years later, Mr. Stumbo became the youngest state legislator in the country to hold the title of House Majority Floor Leader, who, among other duties, serves as the spokesperson for the majority party in the U.S. House of Representatives. When Mr. Stumbo was elected as Attorney General of Kentucky in 2003, his 19 years of accumulated House leadership gave him the longest uninterrupted run of public service ever by a Kentuckian. In 2009—and again in both 2011 and 2013—Stumbo was elected Speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives by his colleagues in the legislature.
For Mr. Stumbo, the transition from working for the people of Kentucky to working “For The People” was an easy one. A big part of his reasoning behind joining Morgan & Morgan, Mr. Stumbo said, was the founder of the firm’s own feelings toward the value of passionate public service.
“Your clients are people who get hurt, injured, damaged, abused; something’s happened to them, and you seek redress through the court system. It’s pretty consistent with what I’ve done my entire professional life,” Mr. Stumbo said. “We have to balance our public duties with our professional responsibilities and the responsibilities of our jobs. Mr. Morgan has been very kind and understanding in that respect, recognizing I have a public office I have to serve and I think that speaks well to his commitment to public service.”
As Attorney General, Mr. Stumbo helped crack down on illegal Internet pharmacies that shipped narcotics into Kentucky, and engaged in a series of successful child predator sting operations, one of which was featured on NBC’s “To Catch a Predator” TV show. While serving as House Speaker, Mr. Stumbo helped overhaul Kentucky’s elementary and secondary school testing system and later sponsored legislation that’s been hailed as a national model for reducing prescription drug abuse.
Still, Mr. Stumbo feels his goals for the future are similar to those he had when he first began his legal career more than 30 years ago—the people always come first. It was Morgan & Morgan’s dedication to and efficiency in working closely with clients that drew him even closer to the firm.
“I always believed that a client was entitled to have his case reviewed properly and to devote as much time as necessary to develop a case as to maximize the chance of a successful recovery. I’m exceedingly impressed with the Morgan firm’s ability to do that.” Mr. Stumbo said. “My goal was to be the best lawyer in the court room for the litigant on that day, and that’s certainly the goal and philosophy that Morgan & Morgan has.”
