Both Drivers in Two-Car Wreck Allegedly Drunk
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) October 17, 2013 -- Two drivers involved in a two-car crash on Sunday were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. The high speed accident happened just after midnight and left the road littered with debris reported an article titled "2 arrested on suspicion of DWI after 2-vehicle accident in SW Houston" by KHOU.
A white cargo van and a black SUV were both allegedly speeding south when one managed to run into the others one, according to KHOU News (09.29.2013). The collision caused both vehicles to lose control. The Houston Police Department says that the van careened over the median and ran into a tree across the street, while the SUV managed to roll over several times before also hitting a tree.
No one was killed, but a female passenger in the SUV was sent to the hospital in stable condition according to KHOU.
Traffic attorney Dane Johnson says it's hard to determine what caused the crash in the first place.
“Two cars heading in the same direction don't usually crash unless it's a rear-ending,” said Johnson, who works extensively on drunk driving cases. “It's possible that one tried to pass the other and misjudged the distance.”
KOU reported that the driver of the SUV was taken into custody immediately, police say. But the van driver managed to escape the scene and flee on foot. Both have been charged with driving while intoxicated.
Johnson says alcohol may not be to blame.
“Many people commit DUI and never even realize it,” he said. “One or two drinks could put you over the limit even hours later. Police haven't released either driver's blood alcohol level.”
