Visible Lighting Responds to the Princess Royal Hospital LED Installation
(PRWEB UK) 18 October 2013 -- The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford has reportedly halved some of its energy bills by installing new LED lights in certain areas, reports Shropshire Live. The lights have already been installed in one of the hospital’s corridors and the building entrance, and LEDs are now part of ongoing plans to become more energy efficient. Beth Beasley, the sales and marketing assistant manager at the company who installed the lights, said:
“A recent survey by The Carbon Trust found that energy-efficient lighting was top of the shopping list for the majority of businesses – some 77% had already invested in new lighting in the past year. In the current financial climate it makes sense that public buildings like hospitals and council offices do the same.
“You are typically looking at savings of up to 50%, and the savings get better the more lights you convert to LED, so it would be great to install more at the hospital. For example, lots of councils up and down the country are now replacing street lights and car park lighting with new LED lights because the savings are so significant.”
John Ellis-Tipton, estates manager for environment and risk at The Carbon Trust, said: “On average, LED lights use only around 20% of the energy used by a traditional filament or halogen lamp, without any reduction in light output. They also last a lot longer and therefore reduce the number of lamps that we have to replace and dispose of.”
Visible Lighting, leading experts in LED lighting, have responded to the news of the Princess Royal Hospital’s use of LEDs for their new energy saving scheme. A spokesperson for the company said:
“LED lighting is so much more energy efficient than traditional incandescent or florescent lighting, so switching over is a brilliant step towards saving costs and helping the environment. For public facilities like the PRH to be joining the many homes and businesses is very encouraging.”
