Creators of Myst Launch Kickstarter Campaign for New Game: Obduction
Spokane, WA (PRWEB) October 18, 2013 -- Cyan, Inc. the creators of Myst and Riven today announced a Kickstarter campaign for a new game - Obduction. Obduction is an all-new, real-time, first-person adventure that harkens back to the spirit of Cyan’s earlier games Myst and Riven. Obduction resurrects the feeling of a player suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a new world that they feel compelled to explore, discover, solve, and become part of.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of Myst, one of the best-selling computer games in history. The Myst name is widely recognized as uniquely defining a new kind of gaming - rich immersive worlds where the point is to understand your environment rather than test your reflexes. The Obduction project will take what Cyan knows about creating deeply immersive worlds and apply it to an entirely new game with a rich storyline, unique scenery and architecture, and mind-bending challenges.
"Obduction will offer an experiential alternative to an audience that may want something different from the current crop of best sellers," states Rand Miller, co-founder of Cyan, Inc. "We've had so many requests lately from people looking for that same feeling of exploration that Myst provided 20 years ago, but with today's technology."
At the Kickstarter base funding level, Obduction will be developed for both Windows and MacOS, with a targeted release of mid-to-late 2015. Kickstarter funding over the base level would be used to expand the scope of the game (adding such things as new places to explore, additional platforms, localization, technological bells and whistles, and more).
