It has been reported in Expat Forum that the research was carried out by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and was designed to investigate the effects of temporary migration in the country over the past decade on existing workers. Also drawing upon information from the Inland Revenue and Statistics New Zealand, the study found that migrant workers are helping to create an economy with more jobs and higher wages for everyone, and this was found to be particularly accurate for industry sectors that employ a high number of temporary workers such as dairy farming, horticulture and hospitality. The New Zealand government has a clear policy that New Zealanders should be given priority for jobs.
Renowned for their worldwide shipping services, Interdean are approached by a wide variety of customers, performing removals for those seeking permanent and temporary relocation. As such, the team were naturally interested by the recent news. A representative from the firm explains how migrants are attracted to areas where employment is growing.
“Over the past ten years New Zealand has undergone steady economic growth, so it’s not surprising that the number of migrant workers has increased. It’s really encouraging to see that in this instance, the rise in overseas workers has created more jobs for everyone, therefore preventing resentment amongst existing workers. Here at Interdean we are experienced in completing all manner of overseas moves to New Zealand, including business moves, family or student moves, as well as excess baggage for those taking time out to travel.”
