Veterans Support Organizations and Civic Groups to Host Veterans Day Celebrations in Shreveport-Bossier on Sunday, November 10

Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau announces details of upcoming Veterans Day celebrations.

The Louisiana Veterans Honor Parade will be held at the State Fair of Louisiana, 2-3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10.

Louisiana-based veterans’ support organizations and civic groups have announced plans to host a day of events to honor military veterans on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the State Fair of Louisiana.

The Caddo Parish Commission, Bossier Parish Police Jury, City of Shreveport and the city of Bossier City, along with local veterans’ support organizations and civic groups have announced plans to host a day of events to honor military veterans on Sunday, Nov. 10. The biggest celebration is the Louisiana Veterans Honor Parade at the State Fair of Louisiana, 2-3 p.m. Brigadier General Joanne Sheridan will serve as the Parade Marshall.

The Louisiana Veterans Honor Parade will occur on the last day of the State Fair of Louisiana, Sunday, Nov. 10. It will consist of floats, marching bands, JROTC drill teams and veterans organizations parading down the midway. Led by Brigadier General Joanne Sheridan as the Parade Marshall, the parade will begin at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum and end at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. Free admission and free parking will be provided for all veterans and their families. Veterans are encouraged to wear their organizational veterans’ caps and t-shirts. Secretary Rodney Alexander of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs will ride in the parade and will be at the ceremony that begins immediately following the parade in the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club honoring veterans from all wars.

The Louisiana Veterans Day Honor Parade will be broadcast live on The Promise 90.7 FM and will stream online at whttp://www.promisetalkradio.org. Emcees Sonja Bailes and Tom Pace will present an exciting narration of the parade procession for those who are unable to attend.

Veterans from all wars (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Iraq and Enduring Freedom) will be recognized and specially nominated veterans will be presented with certificates of appreciation. The Shreveport Metropolitan Band will be the featured entertainment, along with performances by the Airline High School Choir and the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Located next door to the Commercial Exhibit Building on the Louisiana State Fair Grounds.

“through the eyes” is an exhibit designed to honor the men and women who lost their lives and served in the Vietnam War. The exhibit presents images of military personnel, as well as the items they carried and used during their time in country. The exhibit allows visitors a chance to view more than 2,000 items while learning about the people who used the items. Visitors can also learn about the events and individuals depicted in the photographs. The exhibit preserves the history, legacy and selfless duties performed by those members of the armed forces. This exhibit has traveled to more than 300 cities across the United States in 46 states.
