According to CNN Reporter Chris Cuomo, the police have arrested two middle school students for their alleged involvement in the suicide of a middle school student. The mother of one of the alleged teenage bullies was also arrested on Saturday October 19, 2013 for child abuse. According the Master Gary A. Schill, this ever growing issue of juveniles attacking other via social networks and their negative outcomes are solely the responsibility of the parents. As the owner of one of the most successful martial arts academy in the country and leading authority on child and family development, Master Schill has seen a growing trend where parents are just out of touch, overwhelmed and confused.
Master Schill states parents did not grow up with social media and have no childhood experience to draw from in being pro-active in their child's development. In addition, parents have stopped raising children with the village mentality. Most parents today do not want anyone telling their child what to do. The kids know this and feel they can do whatever and whenever, they want.
This lack of parental involvement is causing some real challenges for educators and employers. Children are not learning proper levels of respect, responsibility and self-discipline. Our education system has also lowered the levels of standards required for children and this causing a vacuum in lack of leadership for our children. This is causing issues for employers seeking qualified and trustworthy help to hire in their businesses.
According to Master Schill, it is time to raise the bar for parents and hold them accountable for the actions of their children. Parents need to make their children take responsibility for their actions to help them learn from their mistakes and to ensure they are productive member of society when they become adults.
