Ibis Golf & Country Club recently hosted the USTA National Mother Daughter Tennis Tournament. Teams from throughout the country visited Ibis for the third year in a row to compete in doubles matches on clay courts amid beautiful fall weather. Moms and daughters teamed up for some fierce competition in this annual tournament, as they vied for USTA National titles in three divisions. Teams were competing for the prestigious Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ball awards that go to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, respectively.
“This is a fun tournament for some of our juniors and even league players who might want to play," says Chuck Gill, Director of Sports at Ibis Golf & Country Club. "In addition to the great tennis, we planned many other activities that will make the event fun for everyone. Courtside luncheons, complimentary chair massages, and a players’ dinner in the Clubhouse on Saturday night.” Divisions were held in Open, Senior, and Super Senior.
Participant Ghia Godfree added, “It’s so fun; we just have a great time going to all the tournaments, especially this one; it’s the best.”
The winners were as follows: In the Open division, Denee Massie and Kylee Shipley of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, won 6-3, 6-2. In the Senior division, Linda Lyke and Ghia Godfree of Los Angeles, CA, won 6-1, 6-2. And in the Super Senior division, Penny Powell of Gilbert, AZ, and Leslie Tracy, of Carmel, CA, won their matches 6-3, 6-0.
