East Lansing, MI (PRWEB) October 21, 2013
Network, voice, datacenter, and cloud services communications provider COMLINK announced today that it has completed a HIPAA compliant network constructed to connect healthcare facilities throughout Michigan and launched its Medisphere division to support healthcare providers throughout the Midwest with secure and reliable high-speed network services.
COMLINK’s healthcare network was initially constructed as part of the Rural Health Care Pilot Program (RHCPP), a federal government initiative that was conceived in 2006 to provide an infrastructure to connect rural healthcare providers to their urban counterparts. COMLINK was awarded the contract by the Michigan Public Health Institute to deploy a multimillion-dollar optical broadband network to connect public and non-profit healthcare facilities in underserved areas of Michigan.
The completion of the network marks the end of a process of more than three years that involved extensive network and service modeling by COMLINK experts, contracting with healthcare providers, an extensive network construction process to provide the high-speed networking services necessary to enable healthcare providers to exchange and access pertinent data in real time between their facilities.
COMLINK also announced the launch of Medisphere, which is powered by COMLINK to provide the high-speed networking services and the development of a sophisticated online resource for healthcare providers to help them analyze traffic, network and service performance, and configuration of the equipment at their facilities. COMLINK’s Medisphere network ecosystem now connects well over 100 facilities that currently participate, with more healthcare facilities joining every day.
“Through our committed involvement with the RHCPP, COMLINK has deployed sophisticated optical networking facilities to healthcare facilities in parts of Michigan that previously had little to no connectivity with state-of-the-art broadband capabilities,” said John Summersett, chief operating officer of COMLINK. “Now that they are connected, these facilities can take advantage of time and cost-saving services like medical imaging and other high-speed transport services that will make them more efficient and improve the quality of care they are able to provide.”
The recent implementation of healthcare reform and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act has led to the healthcare industry reaching new heights in terms of operating cost efficiently and effectively as possible, all while supporting the new demands of increased storage and network requirements of new applications and regulations.
By utilizing thousands of miles of wholly owned and operated fiber optic network, COMLINK and our Medisphere division will offer healthcare providers Internet and Internet 2 connectivity, virtual private networks, and cloud connectivity. COMLINK also will equip providers with advanced security to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by enabling:
“The completion of this network is just the first step in helping facilitate more sophisticated healthcare ecosystem throughout the state of Michigan and beyond,” Summersett said. “COMLINK and Medisphere will continue our strong commitment to providing the rapidly evolving healthcare industry with the most advanced secure network facilities and services available.”
