(PRWEB) October 20, 2013 -- National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in bridging the academic and job skills divides, today launched an innovative ADOPT-A-SCHOOL MATCHING STEM GRANT PROGRAM, in partnership with the State University of New York (SUNY). This national initiative is a win-win-win program for businesses, schools and students throughout the US.
This public-private partnership provides schools world-class STEM+ Academies at no cost to the schools. The program has been lauded by the US Congress and the US Department of Education as an innovative approach to bridging the 21st century academic and job skills gaps.
NEF's (http://www.cyberlearning.org) overriding objective is to set up world-class K-12 CyberLearning academies in the nation’s schools, especially the disadvantaged. These academies provide 21st century skills for disadvantaged students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), as well as English, Social Studies, SAT/ACT, Digital Literacy, IT, Business and Management.
NEF Chairman, Dr. Appu Kuttan stares, “America is ranked 25th out of 35 countries in math and science. To compete in the global economy, our students need better STEM skills. Our initiative is aimed at preparing our students better for college and STEM-related jobs.”
NEF’s vision is to set up STEM+ CyberLearning Academies in most disadvantaged schools in the U.S. by 2020.
The initiative provides top-quality training in IT, business and management to businesses with an 80% grant, and utilizes the 20% fee ($190 per employee) paid by businesses to set up a world-class STEM+ academy for students and a free professional academy for parents in a school chosen by a business. Businesses can choose from 5,500 courses.
This national initiative is truly a win-win-win partnership. Businesses save 80% of training costs, and receive enormous CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) credits, plaque in the school and PR. Schools get world-class STEM+ academies, and the students receive world-class individualized STEM + education, capable of advancing a student in a subject like math in 20-30 learning hours.
