The Cloud is all around us, referred to as “Cloud Computing”, “Cloud Storage”, and “The Cloud”, but what is it really? North American Office Systems has just released a new free downloadable white paper for the rest of us titled, “What is Cloud Computing,” the paper explains, in layman’s terms, what the cloud is, and how it works.
One of the key components of the white page at North American Office System’s website explains the differences between several different uses of “The Cloud”. Sections talk about MSP (Managed Service Provider), Utility Computing, SaaS (Software as a Service), Platform as a Service, and Service Commerce Platforms.
Steve Clapp CEO of North American Office Systems located in Orlando, Florida remarked, “With all the blogs and articles written about the cloud, we wanted to create a clear discussion of what each service provided under the name Cloud was and how they operate.”
Many things that are not technically part of the cloud are marketed as “Cloud Computing”, stated most simply; “A service or program accessed through the internet outside of your geographical IT equipment.”
Adobe recently announced that their Creative Suite would only be available through the “Cloud”. This allows users to pay a small monthly fee as compared to purchasing the program package outright, and at the same time allows Adobe to maintain only 1 program in a central location. At the same time Adobe’s problem with worldwide pirating of their software goes away. “Expect more popular software platforms to begin to offer cloud based software in the near future,” Steve Clapp remarked.
With the internet rife with viruses and malware, Managed services are becoming a must. Good managed services will monitor and interact with your systems remotely. “When you have managed services you are almost doubtlessly Cloud Computing,” Steve Clapp concluded.
