Technical Debt Will Cost You

“Infrastructure cost is a core issue for our customers. By fixing code issues so that the cost of running an application is reduced, money is freed up for modernization efforts,” says CEO Christoph Heinrich.

CM First Group today announced publication of an article in the CMG publication, Measure IT, a journal highlighting critical technical information for capacity planners and performance analysts. The paper, “Technical Debt – Why it Matters to Capacity Managers,” extends the discussion about technical debt to a new group of stakeholders. Poorly designed code tends to be much more resource-intensive, making it more likely that earlier hardware upgrades will be necessary. In addition, poorly written code also performs sub-optimally. No matter how good the performance analyst is, if the code isn’t optimized, tuning opportunities are diminished.

The CM First Group team is expert in application modernization; the team understands the need to clean up the technical debt incurred in business applications.

“The original goal for bringing attention to the technical debt problem was its impact on the ability to modernize applications,” said John Rhodes, CTO, CM First. “Yet, while not every application will need to be modernized, every application can benefit from performance and resource optimization.”

“Infrastructure cost is a core issue for our customers. By fixing code issues so that the cost of running an application is reduced, money is freed up for modernization efforts,” says CEO Christoph Heinrich. “But many believe this isn’t an option. CM First recognizes a market demand to automatically identify and remediate technical debt as part of legacy modernization efforts.

Customer satisfaction is directly related to the responsiveness of an application. Inefficient code can lead to lost business if performance isn’t competitive.    Business profitability is reduced by the cost to run an application. Technical debt is an issue of concern to a wide range of business and technical stakeholders. Read the Measure IT paper here: http://cmg.org/measureit/issues/mit103/m_103_9.pdf.
