In response to an article published by Discovery News, Bruce Graham, owner of East End Screen Printing, a Long Island screen printing company, says the t-shirt’s relationship with technology is just beginning.

Bruce Graham, the owner of East End Screen Printing, a Long Island printing company, comments on an article published by Discovery News on October 7th, which discusses a t-shirt that is designed to trick Facebook’s auto-tagging system.

According to an article published by Discovery News titled “T-Shirts Thwart Facebook Auto Tagging,” a university student in Amsterdam named Simone Niquille designed the ‘anti-Facebook’ t-shirt as part of her thesis project. The t-shirt is able to confuse Facebook’s automated tagging technology by displaying multiple images of distorted celebrity faces. Due to the number of familiar, yet incomplete faces, the auto-tagging algorithm cannot make proper identifications and decides not to tag anything.

Niquille said to Wired, regarding her reason for designing the t-shirt, “I was interested in creating a tool for privacy protection that wouldn’t require much time to think in the morning, an accessory that would seamlessly fit in your existing everyday. No adaption period needed.”

Bruce Graham, owner of East End Screen Printing, a Long Island screen printing company, considers Niquille’s t-shirt to be a natural step forward for clothing into social media. “It has been surprising to me that the fashion and clothing industry has been largely left out of the social media craze. While this t-shirt is built to prevent social media interaction, it shows what can be accomplished by printing t-shirts that cooperate with social media.

Graham thinks that the ‘anti-Facebook’ t-shirt will lead to t-shirts that incorporate designs intended to work in conjunction with social media. He says, “In the future, I think clothing will have designs that are meant to be picked up by tagging software. In this way, the t-shirt one wears can alert social media to auto-tag locations, link to a certain webpage, and more.”
