NFI Receives U.S. EPA 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award: Award Recipients are Top Program Performers and Leaders for Freight Supply Chain Efficiency
Cherry Hill, N.J. (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 -- NFI, a nationally leading supply chain solutions provider, was honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a true industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. Previously winning the SmartWay Excellence Award twice before in 2006 and 2008, NFI has continued its mission in improving the supply chain industry’s environmental impact.
“NFI has always been committed to minimizing its impact to the environment,” says Ike Brown, NFI vice chairman and president. Brown adds, “Like the use of natural gas fleets with home improvement retailer Lowe’s, there are many opportunities for NFI to innovate and further our sustainability efforts across our warehousing and transportation operations.”
Currently rating in the top 20 percent overall environmental performance for each of the eight SmartWay emissions metrics, NFI has also improved its miles per gallon by nearly 10 percent and decreased its idle time percentage to less than 4.5 percent. NFI was one of 55 companies to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3000-plus Partners. The Excellence Awardees were honored at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals annual conference held in Denver, Colorado.
"EPA is pleased to recognize the 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award recipients. I commend NFI for its superior environmental performance and leadership in advancing freight sector efficiency", said Gina McCarthy, EPA Administrator. “Their commitment is helping lead the freight industry to a more sustainable future."
