Du-West Helps Texas Home Improvement Build a House for a Wounded Soldier
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 -- Syndicated radio show “Texas Home Improvement with Jim Dutton” recently teamed up with Du-West and other home improvement sponsors to build a new house for PFC Chris Sullivan, who was injured while serving in Afghanistan, then was injured in a shooting after he returned home that left him a quadriplegic.
Sullivan was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in Afghanistan as he tried to save the lives of fellow soldiers when their mud hut was hit by a suicide bomber. When he returned home to California, he was shot in the neck during his welcome home party as he tried to break up a fight. Sullivan went through several surgeries, but fought to stay alive. The shooting left him a quadriplegic, however.
Texas Home Improvement teamed up with KTRH morning show host Matt Patrick, as well as the Houston Texans and Harbour Classic Builders to build a new home for Sullivan. Jim Dutton, host of the Texas Home Improvement Show, said, “Every week I take calls from people who show their pride in their homes with a desire to take the best care of it they can. If we have a chance to make the dream of home ownership a reality for a wounded U.S. soldier, how can we not do that?”
Sullivan and his family were honored during a special halftime presentation at a Houston Texans game on December 16, 2012. It was then that Texas Home Improvement made the announcement that they would be building a new home for Sullivan. The house was built in League City’s Tuscan Lakes Community by Harbour Classic Builders, with help from Du-West full service repair solutions.
The house features products donated by the Houston Texans and Texas Home Improvement sponsors, including Du-West. The house includes a number of energy efficient products like a high SEER rated HVAC system, foam insulation in the walls, a radiant barrier in the attic and high e-rated vinyl double pane windows. These products will minimize energy costs and maintenance for Sullivan and his family. Best of all, they received this home free of charge.
