Finance World Champion Alex Gordon to Defend Title at ModelOff in New York

25-Year-old Alex Gordon from PwC New Zealand to defend his crown as the ModelOff 2013 Financial Modeling World Championship with over 3,000 Finance and Excel participants from over 100 countries.

ModelOff ( today announced that current Financial Modeling World Champion, Alex Gordon of New Zealand, will defend his title at the Financial Modeling World Championships, which get underway this Saturday.

Gordon, 25, who works for leading professional services firm PwC in the Corporate Finance Division in New Zealand, will receive automatic entry to the Top 16 World Finals held on 7th / 8th December 2013 in New York City, USA. In 2012, Gordon overcame over 2,000 Finance professionals and students from over 100 countries worldwide to become the inaugural Financial Modeling World Champion and receive $25,000 Cash First Prize.

“It’s an amazing honour – I think there will be some extremely strong new competition this year. The finalists last year were extremely fast and clearly at the top of their game but I’m sure it will only get harder. The experience last year was fantastic both professionally and personally.” Gordon has completed all examinations for the prestigious CFA Charterholder qualification, and will soon complete his professional work experience requirements.

“If anyone can be back-to-back World Champion – it’s Alex. He’s worked on some new and highly complex projects over the past 12 months. He’s taken the title of World Champion with great humility and PwC is very proud of him,” says PwC Partner, Richard Longman, who works closely with Alex on a daily basis.

Judges include three global leading authorities on Excel, Finance and Financial Modeling - Professor Simon Benninga (Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Tel Aviv University, Israel), 9-Time Microsoft MVP, Mr Bill Jelen (aka “Mr Excel”) and Kiel Le France (S&P Capital IQ, Head of Financial Modeling). The Live World Finals will be held at Microsoft offices in New York. Round 1 is a 120 minute online competition that will commence on October 26, 2013 at 5:00pm New York time (worldwide).
