Tampa, FL (PRWEB) October 24, 2013
PMSI, one of the nation’s largest and most experienced companies focused on cost containment services for workers’ compensation, liability, and no fault, announced the addition of Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP) services to its suite of services offered through its Settlement Solutions Division. Like traditional Medicare conditional payments, MAPs may have a priority right of recovery for conditional payments. Primary payers settling a case with a Medicare beneficiary should ensure that MAPs are considered in the settlement, or risk paying double in damages.
“The U.S. Third District Court of Appeals set the precedent that settlement of a claim with a Medicare beneficiary should not only consider traditional conditional payments at the time of settlement, but also any liens that a MAP may have,” explained Jeffrey Gurtcheff, PMSI’s vice president and general manager of Settlement Solutions. “Unlike the traditional conditional payment process where prior payment information can be secured through the MSPRC, MAPs are numerous with varying points of entry. It takes a proven industry leader like PMSI to help navigate the landscape.”
PMSI provides MAP canvassing services to assist customers with identifying if a beneficiary is enrolled in a MAP, MAP lien verification services, and lien analysis services. If a lien exists, PMSI reviews the payment summary provided by the MAP, and performs a detailed analysis of all file materials. PMSI then notifies the client in writing of any disputable charges and provides recommendations for resolution and reduction of the lien amount. If the client requests an appeal/dispute, PMSI works in conjunction with the client and the MAP to reduce the lien amount.
