Governor Scott Walker and a Republican legislature promised last week to spend a projected budget surplus on tax cuts. But experts from Instant Tax Solutions say that homeowners can expect their end of year bill to keep going up.
Walker announced cuts to the tune of $100 million according to the Wisconsin State Journal (10.15.2013). These tax cuts are funded based on a projected surplus to the state budget, but when spread out over the number of homeowners expected to benefit, the typical tax bill will only be reduced by $13 this year and another $20 next year.
Instant Tax Solutions is a tax relief firm that assists citizens struggling with excessive tax bills. The firm says that this kind of move is popular because it looks like big savings on paper, but citizens should be wary of counting only on promised tax cuts to balance their books.
That's because even though the state expects a surplus this year, spending still outstrips revenue in the Wisconsin general fund, according to the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance. That means that there may be no basis to continue the tax cuts for more than the planned two year period.
Even if they do continue, $33 every two years isn't big savings for the average taxpayer, Instant Tax Solutions says.
Instead, the firm advocates that taxpayers conduct a complete review of the taxes they pay—looking closely at potential exemptions, tax breaks and relief options that few taxpayers know about. Even tax accountants typically look only for deductions and credits and do not explore IRS relief options, the firm said.
Instant Tax Solutions urges taxpayers to get out from under crippling tax debts once and for all by contacting a tax relief specialist immediately.
