Light in Motion are pleased to announce the newest additions to their extensive Sub-miniature Surface Mount Optical Sensor Range:
- QTLP660CIR: GaAs Infrared emitter with a 30 degree emission angle
- QTLP660CPD: matching transistor detector with 30 degree reception angle and with a water clear lens for detection of both visible and non-visible light
- QTLP660CPDF: matching transistor detector with 30 degree reception angle, a day light filter detector excluding visible light and optimising the response to infrared wavelengths, enabling higher emitter output and greater transistor sensitivity
The new surface mount GaAs LED emitter, QTLP660CIR, incorporates a high dome lens with an emission angle of 30 degrees and a typical output of 140mW/sr at IF = 100mA; tp = 100ms; Duty Cycle = 0.01.
The matching surface mount phototransistor, QTLP660CPD, uses the same domed lens with a typical on-state collector current of 1.8mA for EE = 1mW/cm2; VCE = 5V. This sensor includes a clear lens which enables it to detect both visible and infrared light.
The QTLP660CPDF model expands upon the features of the QTLP660CIR and QTLP660CPD, incorporating a daylight filter which blocks visible light while allowing the detection of infrared light. The result is increased sensitivity to infrared wave lengths.
Most small outline surface mount devices, due to their size, have very limited lens effects which widen emission and reception angles and result in lower outputs/sensitivity. In many applications this poorer performance results in engineers being to be forced into using through-hole devices, where the lens effect is much better. In surface mount board assemblies, this results in additional processes (often manual) adding cost and increasing cycle time.
The new Light in Motion surface mount devices are designed to overcome these limitations usually associated with small outline surface mount emitter and detector sensors, saving customers production costs and reducing cycle times.
The high on-axis intensity of the emitter and the high sensitivity of the detector allows the designer to either increase the distance range, or drive the emitter at lower drive currents, saving power. The small size of the components and low profile (inserted in a through hole in the PCB) also accommodates limited space applications while still offering the benefits of the narrow beam high outputs and sensitivity.
A pair of QTLP660CIR/QTLP660CPDF fits particularly well in reflective sensing applications where the devices can be placed side by side.
Being sensitized to infrared emissions, the QTLP660CPDF is well-suited for monitoring the level of infrared in IR camera applications, for example in conjunction with an array of the high light output QEB651 model.
A pair of QTLP660CPD/QEB651 is particularly suitable combination for proximity sensing. The QTLP660CPD is ideal for sensing the status of visible indicator lamps or ambient light detection.
Other applications include those requiring an infrared emitter and detector mounted on surface mount boards for use in remote transfer of data/state to a detector/microprocessor, and photoelectric sensing (for automation).
