The interest in reducing blue light in the evening is rapidly increasing with two major lighting companies introducing “healthy” light bulbs. Since 2001 it’s been known that it is primarily the blue rays in ordinary white light that suppress the body’s production of the sleep hormone, melatonin. Since 2005, LowBlueLights has been providing incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs that filter out essentially all of the blue rays. LED technology allows producing a bulb with none of the blue light known to suppress melatonin, but is rich in all the other colors. A very recent study (1) reported that melatonin has the ability to convert white fat to blown fat. Brown fat is easily converted into heat and lost from the body. More melatonin, more heat, less weight gain. While it seems like a lot for a light bulb, it will last for as long as 10 years, and save its price over and over again in your electric bill.
