The European Union funded campaign Flavor Your Life details the nutritional value of olive oil and how it promotes overall health.

Flavor Your Life, a European Union funded campaign dedicated to providing the latest olive oil industry news, shares some of the health benefits of olive oil and why it should be incorporated into your diet.

Extra virgin olive oil is the only fat that comes from being pressed from a fruit. The monounsaturated fats found in olive oil provide positive health benefits and are recommended in a balanced diet. Carol Firenze, the author of The Passionate Olive, explains what theses fats can do. “Extra virgin olive oil is a heart-healthy, monounsaturated fat. Laden with antioxidants called polyphenols, olive oil helps raise HDL (good) cholesterol and lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol.”

Olive oil also contains healthy polyunsaturated fats and is rich in vitamin E, provitamin A and antioxidants. Polyunsaturated fatty acids can be found in olive oil as well. It is considered an essential acid because it cannot be produced by the human body; it must be consumed through a healthy diet.

Firenze also details how the components found in olive oil can help slow down signs of aging in the skin. “As an antioxidant (containing hydroxytyrosol and vitamin E), extra virgin olive oil helps fight free radicals and prevents cell degeneration. Olive oil also contains squalene, a natural organic compound that improves elasticity, vitality and skin tone and protects the skin from dehydration.” The combination of all of the elements found in olive oil makes it a great addition to any diet.

Flavor Your Life, a campaign supported by the European Union, Unaprol and the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, is dedicated to providing the latest in industry news and health information about European extra virgin olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil enhances the flavors of your recipes while providing health benefits. Flavor Your Life campaign, the voice of olive oil production quality control, aims to educate consumers so they can make informed decisions when purchasing olive oil.
