ISI began working with ecfirst in October of 2006 to conduct activities such as Risk Analysis and Vulnerability Assessments. Both the Risk Analysis and Vulnerability Assessments were based on the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule.
The Risk Analysis was based upon on-site interviews with key staff and management team members, documentation review, review of the ISI offices, and Data Center. The Vulnerability Assessments have investigated the existence of any technical vulnerabilities that might jeopardize the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information (EPHI).
The most recent Risk Analysis, conducted in July of 2013, assessed ISI’s compliance with the objectives of the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and the HITECH Act. ecfirst discovered that ISI has been working diligently to remediate the findings from their Risk Analysis of 2011. ISI is now conducting proactive information system activity reviews through the GFI EventsManager system.
ISI has also taken great steps towards meeting specific HIPAA requirements by adding encryption for data at rest and password encryption for devices.

Additionally, ISI previously engaged ecfirst to complete an “Evaluation Standard.” This Standard is offered by ecfirst to Business Associates that demonstrate excellent levels of compliance with sincere and sustained efforts to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of EPHI.
As part of that engagement, ecfirst, The HIPAA Academy, established that, “The ISI Telemanagement Infortel Select v10, when installed and implemented according to vendor specifications, will allow an organization to meet the applicable and appropriate requirements of HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations.”
ISI has required several of their staff to attend an intensive HIPAA Privacy and Security training boot camp and obtain Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP) and Certified Security Compliance Specialist™ (CSCS) certifications to ensure that ISI has Subject Matter Experts on staff. This training gave ISI the knowledge and skills to create information security policies for any organization with HIPAA requirements.
