The conference takes place Thursday, Oct. 24 through Oct. 25, 2013 at the New York Marriott East Side in New York. In addition, firm shareholders Jonathan L. Sulds and James M. Sulds, co-chair of the firm’s global Labor & Employment and ERISA Litigation practices, will focus his panel on class actions updates, managing and defending against ERISA class action and defeating certification, including, how a plaintiff can adapt to the new class action landscape, defense strategies for defeating class certification and issues pertaining to damages in an ERISA class actions. He has been representing leading employers since 1974 in virtually every aspect of their engagement, protection, management and reward of workforce resources. He is experienced in the areas of collective bargaining and traditional labor relations, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation, wage and hour matters, discrimination complaints, restrictive covenant, duty of loyalty and trade secret litigation.
Nelson, who is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Sacramento and Phoenix Labor & Employment and Global Employee Benefits practices, will focus his panel on emerging trends in ERISA litigation including the impact of the Affordable Care Act, actions against church plans, and more. He represents employers and ERISA plan fiduciaries in matters concerning ERISA compliance, fiduciary responsibility, collective bargaining, wage and hour, employee benefits, safety, discrimination, wrongful termination, and other labor and employment issues. His experience includes complex litigation, class action defense, administrative proceedings and appeals, as well as advice and counseling to ERISA plan fiduciaries of single-employer and multi-employer plans. Nelson regularly presents on labor and employment and ERISA topics, and is also the editor for the American Bar Association’s Employee Benefits Committee Newsletter. He is on the Board of Governors of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel (ACEBC) and is a Fellow of both ACEBC and the American College of Employee Benefits.
