American University Takes Graduate Communication Degree Online
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- Building upon the strong foundation of one of the most established programs of its kind in the Washington, D.C. area, the new online Strategic Communication master’s degree takes full advantage of American University’s location in a major media capital. The constantly updated and hands-on curriculum is designed to create graduates whose storytelling and communication skills in traditional and digital media channels make them stand apart from their peers. Coursework in the 30-credit, 10-course program focuses on telling compelling stories, crafting messages that inspire action and effectively harnessing the power of digital and emerging technology.
Online students will also benefit from one of the hallmarks of the master’s degree in Strategic Communication at American: to study with faculty members who are at the forefront of the field, as well as with adjunct faculty, guest lecturers and alumni who are prominent speechwriters, media strategists, press secretaries, Hollywood agents, advertising executives and more.
Graduates are equipped for communication and related positions in any industry or field. With the ability to adapt to new environments and technology, careers can range from speechwriting to corporate communications to advertising. The numbers tell the story: American’s 2012 survey showed that 92 percent of School of Communication graduate students were employed within six months of graduation, working for such major organizations as Ogilvy Public Relations, C-SPAN, NPR and The Washington Post.
“Strategic Communication is a logical choice for an online master’s program because the field is growing exponentially,” said Pallavi Kumar, assistant professor and senior associate division director of public communication at American University. “In today’s complex media landscape, no organization can excel without it so it has never been a better time to pursue a career in strategic communication.”
Applications to the online MA in Strategic Communication are now being accepted. To apply or to learn more about the program, go to programs.online.american.edu or call 855-725-7614.
